"live" editing is compromised

Postby brynn » Mon May 14, 2012 7:27 am

Hi Friends,
I'm not really sure the right words to use to describe this. In the past, when for example, I would drag one node of a 2 node straight path, the node and the path would move all at once -- like stretching a rubberband. Lately, just the node has been moving. The line stays where it is until I release the mouse, and then the line jumps to it's new place. At first, I thought this was because I was working in a very large file, and it was a performance issue. But I've just started a brand new document, where performance should not be an issue. It's the only Inkscape doc open (542 kb due to imported JPG). (Usually I would need to be in the range of 3 mb to see a performance issue.) Yet I'm still having this weird behavior.

I've been trying to hold out until 0.48.3 comes out to upgrade from 0.48.1. I don't know why I think this, but I suspect either uninstall/reinstall, or upgrade will fix this. Although I can't explain why I think this. Neither restarting Inkscape or restarting computer will fix it. I guess I need to learn how to make a video, but at the moment, I can't show you what I mean. But hopefully my description will be enough.

Does anyone have any idea what might be happening? Or how to get back to the typical behavior?

Thanks for your help :D

Under Inkscape preferences > Tools > Node, do you have "Update path when dragging nodes" checked? Maybe you were playing with the options and...

Oh wow, that fixed it!
I have no idea how it got changed though. I can't even remember the last time I had Inkscape Preferences opened. Weird!

Thanks Uktrunie :D
