This is a tricky one, I realize. If you make different sets of tiled clones in the same drawing, I believe it only remembers the last settings used. So select object A, then make some tiled clones of it. Then select object B, make tiled clones of it with different settings. You can then select object A and remove its tiled clones. But you cannot re-create (perhaps with slightly altered settings) them because you don't know the settings used for it any more. The dialog has the settings for object B only.
The tricky part is that you might instead in the example above make two different sets of tile clones, both based on object A, but with different settings. In an ideal world, you would be able to select which set you want to remove or re-create.
Or is there a workaround anyone knows about?
Tiled Clones - remember settings
Re: Tiled Clones - remember settings
There's no way to save the tiled clones settings, other than to write them down.
I don't know anything about writing scripts, but it seems reasonable that someone with the appropriate knowledge might be able to write some automated way of saving them. But none exists that I know of.
The tiled clones dialog only remembers the last time it was used, regardless of which object it cloned.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know this is the case currently. I put it in the "Inkscape Ideas" section
to suggest this as an improvement for the future.
Re: Tiled Clones - remember settings
PS It should also show a random number generator seed that can be saved to re-generate the exact clones.
As it is now, even if you write down every setting, if you randomize anything, you can never reproduce the
exact results. If you use high randomness, you might re-generate a number of times until you like the
result.
