The problem i have IS that when i open an .ai file from illustrator cs6 in inkscape, I'm losing the metadata in the file.
IS there any way to keep the metadata?

I don't have much experience with AI, can you show an example document with some metadata that Inkscape doesn't read? Or just paste the bit of code pertaining to it?
If AI doesn't follow SVG specs it isn't likely Inkscape would recognize those bits, although it can be implemented to improve compatibility.
