I have the newest version of Inkscape running on Windows Vista and I've noticed that when I open documents, usually craft patterns that I've scanned and saved as jpegs, they seem to be wider than they should. Circles look like ovals yet the measurement boxes in the toolbar show that height and width are exactly the same. When I draw a new circle (holding down the control key, of course!) the numbers say its a circle but it still looks like an oval. When I play with the "Transform" dialogs, it tells me the same thing, yet, when I print out the document, it prints as an oval, not a circle. It doesn't matter if I save the doc as an inkscript svg or export it as a bitmap, the result is the same. Squares are off, too, but unless it's a large one, it isn't nearly as noticeable. What needs tweaking?
Thanks!

Re: shapes out of whack
Did you change the value for for numeric precision? See
- Inkscape Preferences > SVG output > Numbers > Numeric precision
Re: shapes out of whack
Do you have a GIMP that you can check to see if this behaviour is specific to inkscape? Some monitor drivers have settings independent for vert and horiz resolution and scaling . What is your OS?
Your mind is what you think it is.

The default is '8'.
It's still set on the default setting.

I don't **think** I have a GIMP. My OS is Windows Vista Home Premium.

Re: shapes out of whack
GIMP is an image editing program similar to photoshop that is, like Inkscape, open source and available at no cost online. If you havee photpshop or GIMP you can try printing a circle drawn in either of these from the program itself without using inkscape to see if it prints a s a circle or oval. in your control panels you might find a display control panel in it under one tab or the other you might find something for setting horiz and vert resolution independently. i have had games alter these display settings and not set them back afterwards. Also check your print prefs to see if you have any page scaling set in there.
Your mind is what you think it is.

Mystery SOLVED!!!!!
I did some digging and when I couldn't find and settings for in the programs, but fiddled with the moniter and, lo and behold, the resolution setting was off. I adjusted it and now I have circles again! I never would have thought of checking it if you hadn't posted. Thanks so much!
