I have made a vertical sliver from a semicircle and applied transparency and blur to it so that it looks like a shadow
Can anyone tell me how I can get one side of it to have a 'hard' edge? - I have tried doing path cuts on it (boolean) but when I snip off the side, it still blurry
This is the look I am trying to create:
how do I make a hard edge on a blurred object?

Re: how do I make a hard edge on a blurred object?
Hi apcrcom,
There are a couple of ways to do it.
The simplest one, is move it below (in z order or lower layer) another object which has a hard edge. If it's not in such a situation which will provide a hard edge for your purposes, you can use clipping. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... pping.html But instead of the usual use for clipping, you'll want to extend the clipping path far enough away from the blurred edges, so as not to create a hard edge in the blur, where you don't want it. I could draw up a quick example, if you like. Just lmk

Re: how do I make a hard edge on a blurred object?
AHA (lightbulb) IC
So what I did - following your suggestion - was to make a clip of the carbon texture about 3/4 width of the original bitmap, then align and RAISED it to above the height of the shadow. Then just a matter of sliding the shadow in underneath it.
Its easy once someone shows you how
Thanks a heap. Much appreciated
