Redock toolbars

Hi,

I have dragged the command toolbar by an accident and now I am not able to redock it in its place. I tried moving it to its original position but it keeps "floating" instead of docking. I have tried also dragging the snap toolbar and now I have two problems instead of just one X-D since I cannot redock none of both... :-|

Any hint?

At the bottom of the view menu you will see three options : default, custom and wide. Pick an option other than the one that is selected (probably custom, since you dragged them) and see if that re-attaches the toolbars.

The fact that you can move them indicates that you're not using the most current version of Inkscape. .....unless developers have changed it in the development version, and that's what you're using? It's not a huge problem that you're not using a current version, but I just wanted to mention it, in case you might want to upgrade. Also, if you don't have a current version, you might not see those 3 options that druban mentioned, on the View menu.

The last time I remember being able to move those bars, I do remember it being a little tricky. All i can remember is that you have to grab them in such a way that you see the 4 way arrow. That will be at the left side of the bar. Then you drag it to where the left side of the bar connects to the left side of the window. I seem to recall that it doesn't look like it's doing anything, but when you release the mouse button, it will jump into place.

I'm using Inkscape 0.48.2 r9819 in Ubuntu Linux, 11.10.

This works for me: when detaching a toolbar, the way to restore it to its previous position is to double-click the drag "handle".

I took down one of the top row of toolbars. I dragged it to where it once was and it snapped back into place. On it's far left side is a strip with a small series of lines (it's there before you drag it off away from Inkscape).

Tell me how that works.

Not rare: I am using the same inkscape version within the same Ubuntu 11.10... :-D

Oh yeah, actually I'm using 0.48.1. And that's the first feature I've found in 0.48.2 that's different. I know that 0.48.2 was all bug fixes, but that's the first one I've seen that affects me. Although I would hardly call that a bug (control bars that can't be moved).

Anyway, sorry for misleading you.

Actually I have been using Linux for more than fifteen years ;-)

I started with Red Hat, after that I used Suse for many years, then I move to Gentoo for a couple of years or so, and I have been using Kubuntu and Ubuntu for about last seven years. I just have a VirtualBox with a Windows 7 installation for testing my webpages on several IE versions.

Hi all,

I am using version 0.48 under Ubuntu 14.04, and these instructions didn't work for me. However, I was able to redock in the following way.

There are two bars at the top of the toolbar when undocked. For example I am using the Align and Distribute toolbar, and I see one bar with the close (x), minimise (-), and maximise (box) controls, with Align and Distribute (Shift+Ctrl+A) to the right. This I will call the outer bar. Below this is a bar with a lighter grey background an icon corresponding to the toolbar and Align and Distribute (Shift+Ctrl+A) written again (a second time). I will call this the inner bar.

If you click and drag with the outer bar to the top then it will maximise to the whole screen. if you click and drag to the top of the dock using the inner bar then the tool bar redocks.

YES!!!!!! This is the answer!

If you drag from the inner bar it will allow you to re-dock the window.

You may need to right-click the 'Inner Bar' and unlock if you don't see any controls
