Dillerkind's image pool

Postby Dillerkind » Tue May 10, 2011 11:05 pm

Hi boys and girls.

I've been using Inkscape for a while now. And since I'm feeling really comfortable with it (and highly doubt that this is going to change any time soon), I thought it might be a cool idea to register here and show some of the stuff I've done with the program. I've got a rather small output, so don't expect too much for now.

Hopefully I'll find the time to get involved at least a bit with the community here.. but knowing myself it's very likely that I'll mostly stick to and update this single thread. I'm one of the rather anti-social kind

----------

Okay, now here's what I've finished so far.

Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

Some of these can be purchased in my RedBubble store (shirts and hoodies for the most part). Should this notice be against the board rules, please let me know and I'll remove it.. Just in case...

----------

Btw. I was surprised to see the little icon on the index-page of the forum. The original sketch/drawing was one of mine, vectorized by Mr. Microugly years ago :D If anybody wants to see my ol' pencil version, click here.

----------

Oookay, I think that's enough for a starting post. Sorry for the messy picture part. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my humble artworks. More of my stuff (especially pencil drawings, since this is the field I've come from originally) can be seen in my blog. So if you like what you're seeing here, make sure to pay it a visit :)

Welcome Dillerkind!

Wow yes, very nice work! My favorites are the first and the last. But they're all exceptional!

Oh yeah, on the page you see if you aren't logged in. micro really has a talent for coloring, and for choosing great sketches :D

Wow, thanks much for the warm welcome! Which reminds me that I haven't even properly introduced myself  Sooo, here's a little bit of unimportant info about the odd person that is I:

Born, raised and lived ever since in Germany. Kindergarten, school, another school, 10 months of military duty, university. Thought it would be good to study some computer/business something which, in the end, turned out as something I didn't like too much. But I pulled it through and at least got my degree. Now I'm kind of a freelancer, doing underpaid writing jobs, giving private math lessons to some kids in need in my old school and doing veeery rare drawing jobs (tattoos anyone?). Anyway, to me drawing is among the coolest things on earth. I like Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels and videogames (playing and creating... though I've still got to finish at least one of my countless projects yet). Overall I'm a really boring person with few interests and at times a severe lack of motivation to get involved in human society in general. Oh, and art-wise I like to find my own way, not relying on tutorials and such. It's not a very efficient way of learning but usually I reach my goals :ugeek:

Okay, that's that. Should have been in the first post but with copy&pasting all the image links together I totally forgot about that part. And now on to a bunch of images I also forgot.. just for sake of completeness. If you take a look at the dates in the lower right corner you'll notice that some of these are older than the ones I posted earlier. These are my first Inkscape pieces ever.. that is, if I didn't forget yet another batch of pics.

----------

This is one of very few fan-art pieces I've done. And it's one that got me some weird feedback on HentaiFoundry and opened my eyes to the fact that pr0n fans have little to no sense of humor.
Image

Aaand last but not least, here's one I did as a little gift for some guys I got to know at the 2008 Comic Salon in Germany, who run a small independent publishing house. It's the cover image for the limited edition of one of their comics (I think 500 copies were printed in total, 100 of these being the special edition).

----------

That's all for today and probably for a while. Not sure when I'll have some new vectors ready for public showcasing but there'll definitely be more to come at some point. Thanks for stopping by and don't be shy to comment. Constructive feedback is welcome, no matter if positive or negative. I'm certainly not one to adapt to any advice given to him but I'm always keen on hearing what people think about what I'm doing. Like/dislike my style? I want to know about that! Got a question? Go ahead and ask! Think something in my works sucks? Tell me, I won't bite! ;)

Hey, welcome Dillerkind. You've taken your sweet time to show up here--but that's probably because you clearly have a very good grasp on how to use Inkscape and haven't need our help :)

I hadn't seen your Hades Syndrom image before--it looks awesome. Technically speaking, great work on the mist and the laser lens-flare. I know I couldn't have made a mist effect that looks so convincing.

This is one of very few fan-art pieces I've done. And it's one that got me some weird feedback on HentaiFoundry and opened my eyes to the fact that pr0n fans have little to no sense of humor.

Don't toy with people pr0n addictions ;)

Heya.. Well, I wouldn't say I don't need anybody's help. I just don't ask for help very often. My way is that of trial and error. Not exactly the most efficient way of learning but it works for me.. somehow  Still there are a lot of things and features I haven't even looked at yet. But one step at a time. But I assure you, should I stumble upon a problem I can't solve all on my own I won't hesitate to ask for support :)

The comic cover, erm.. I'm not sure whether I posted it on DA. Maybe I forgot and that's why you didn't see it. Lots of experiments in this one. The effects you mentioned, the background (whatever little is there anyway), apart from the characters there was NOTHING in the sketch. So I pretty much improvised on these parts. That steam/mist/whatever for example is little more than a bunch of ellipses, gradients and some blur. I'm sure there are better ways to get this done but for a first attempt I think it didn't come out too bad

I'm currently working on a new one.. and got a few more sketches on paper a couple of days ago. So expect some new stuff soon ^^ Maybe I'll post some sketchy teasers in my blog.. or maybe not. Haven't decided yet...

Anyway, thanks for your comment. It's much appreciated. Btw. if I may ask, how are you involved with Inkscape? Your name seems a pretty well-known in "the scene". Are you one of the developers or something? I'm just curious..

Alrightey.. I'm out. Everybody have a nice weekend!

I'm not a developer--I couldn't find the time to learn. This is my forum, which is why your girls appear on the front-page (I obviously didn't ask for permission to do that ). I was hooked on Inkscape when I first found it and at the time there was only the mailing list for users.

Heya all!

It's been an awfully long time since my last visit/update. Today I finished some new stuff and thought I'd rather post it quickly before I forget about this place

The first two are available as shirt here in my RedBubble shop. Also, my blog is up-to-date again. So maybe you wanna pay it a visit and/or bookmark if you haven't done so yet ;)

Thanks for your time.

OMG, you are one seriously talented artist. I don't know why you aren't making millions doing trademark kind of work....unless....well I guess there is no money to be made doing trademark kind of stuff. But you should be making millions doing art somehow or another, lol! Yeah, judging by the afro ninja dude, I can see the appeal for tattoos. But hey, it's income, right?! Yep, got the blog bookmarked!

Personally I don't think it's that much talent I got... I prefer to believe it's the result of long hours of practice, blood (seriously.. every now and then my nose starts bleeding so there's really blood involved.. bleh), sweat and tears (well okay, forget about the tears part). Why I'm not making millions? I suppose that's because of a severe lack of self confidence or I dunno. And because I think it's really hard to make millions with art. Too many people trying to get their share of the big cake, if you know what I mean..

With tattoos you are right. I've actually done a number of tattoo commissions. Nothing vector though, this was all before I had even started playing around with vectors. And now that I think about it.. currently I have to get one done. Erm yes, drifting into off-topic again.. Thanks for the nice feedback, for bookmarking and whatever else I might have to thank you for. I really appreciate it :)

The thing that springs to my mind when I see your art is how good a style it would be for illustrations for Terry Pratchett novels.

Carrozza
Wow.. this is the first time somebody used the word Bravissimo for my stuff :D Thanks a lot for that!

Simarilius
Hehe, you're not the first one to say so. I've heard several people say something like this about my pencil pics. Aaaand surprise surprise, actually I am a big fan of Mr. Pratchett's works and Josh Kirby's cover illustrations. I wouldn't name him as one of my main style inspirations, though. I'm rather trying to get my own little style going. Nonetheless it's a great compliment. Thanks for that!

And here's a quick update. It's a variant of an older pencil piece of mine. Hope y'all like :)

I fear I've got bad news for you: it's out of print now. So you'd better think of something else to spend those $138.27 on. But I'm sure you'll find something eh.. Thanks for your interest though ;)

I have a question. I like the colors in your works, how do you choose them? do you have a personal palette?
