First time poster here. I'm not really a graphics kind of guy, but I was hoping to be able to use Inkscape to help with a project.
A friend designed a logo for me, using Adobe illustrator. The file is a .ai. I can open it with Inkscape, and figured out how to clone the logo and resize it. The logo is supposed to be black on a white background, and it appears that way on the screen. So far, so good.
When I print it from inkscape to a black & white laser printer, the page comes out with a black background. I can save it as a PDF and print it using Adobe Reader, but the quality isn't very good. I've played around with changing background colors, but it appears that the background color is already set to white.
What am i doing wrong?
Pages Printing With Black Background
Re: Pages Printing With Black Background
Hi.
Printing from svg through inkscape may have some issues, probably some are noted at inkscape sourceforge site's bug tracker.
Thus I would suggest to print from a pdf outside inkscape.
Did you try to increase the resolution of the rasterisation from 90 dpi to 300 or more when saving to pdf?
I'm guessing you are using somekind of filtering, as all other object's quality shouldn't change at all.

Re: Pages Printing With Black Background
I did try increasing the resolution when exporting to PDF, but it's not much better. I'd like to try printing right from Inkscape to see if the results are better, but I have to figure out how to get rid of the black background first.
If there's some sort of filter being applied, I don't know what it is, or where to look.

Re: Pages Printing With Black Background
If you can upload the svg or .ai file, we can take a look. Might be something simple like an extra element that AI puts in.
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Here's the SVG file. Thanks for taking a look. The AI file is too big, even zipped. If necessary, I can provide a link to my Dropbox account.

Re: Pages Printing With Black Background
Well, there was a black clipping element, as large as the document. Removing it doesn't seem to harm it, as far as i can tell.
I ungrouped the original, unclipped and discarded the full black element.
The kerning of the text was/is a bit uneven, though. Might be from conversion to svg.

Thanks for the help.
Would that black element also be present in the .AI file? If so, can you tell me how to remove it?

Re: Pages Printing With Black Background
I don't have Illustrator, but I assume it is there.
Illustrator and Corel seem to use clipping on documents, I'm not sure why.
I would just use Inkscape to tweak the logo as needed and use directly or in conjunction with Scribus for layouts.

Hi,
I am also getting the black background. I've ungrouped my picture, even moved everything to the side, but I can't find anything that looks like a "black clipping element".
Per your signature I went to the manual but there doesn't seem to be a way of searching it (next stop Google) so can you tell me how I find this clipping element?
EDIT: I've attached one of the files that does this.
Thx
Keke

Re: Pages Printing With Black Background
Ah! I think I may have found the answer:
[win64] Transparent objects and empty areas print black
I am definitely using Windows 64bit and I'm fairly sure I'm using Inkscape 64bit ... not sure which is the problem (I think it's the 64bit Inkscape).
Apparently it's solvable (workaround) by creating a large white square which (I assume) you send to the bottom.
EDIT: Confirmed that workaround works.
