3 Cornered Curved Star - What am I doing wrong?

Postby chambead » Mon Apr 25, 2011 7:19 pm

Hi, first post here. Sorry if I'm breaking rules in any way. I've searched the forum and I can't seem to find a solution to this one.

I am trying to create a 3-spoked, rotated star. Exactly the same as this one:
Image

So, one thinner star on top of a thicker star, slightly rotated by the looks of it.

I've tried creating a star :tool_star: , setting 3 spokes and all combination of control handles :tool_node: and rotation but I just can't seem to get this exact shape. I'm pretty sure that when one has been created the other one will need thinner spoked and overlayed onto the lighter blue one. I've even tried using bezier :tool_pen: tool to create a single spoke and then rotate it around itself but it ends up looking awful! Grrr!

This is driving me insane. I know it's going to be something stupidly simple but I just can't see it in documentation or forums. Please help.

Thanks

Welcome chambead!

Something like this?

I don't know if you can get the EXACT same thing. But definitely something similar can be done with the Star tool. Try using Shift + drag on the Star tool's control handles. You will need to do some Shift + drag, and some just dragging. Very small movements, nothing dramatic. And then you are right -- when you have close to what you want, duplicate it, and adjust the Spoke Ratio, to get the 2nd one.

If you can't manage to get the exact same thing, then you could get it as close as you can with the Star tool. Then do Object to Path, and tweak the node handles to fine tune it.

Hi Brynn. Thanks for the tips. Here's what I've got so far:

I think with a little more tweaking and care I can achieve what I am after now. It's pretty close now. A combination of node tweaking and SHIFT + handle drag during the star manipulation got me roughly what I was after.

I've just discovered that you can scale and rotate nodes uniformly using CTRL + [ OR ] and CTRL + < OR >

Thanks for your help!
