Hi ice_heart,
If the cutter machine stopped suddenly stopped working, you'll have to contact the manufacturer. Since this forum is about Inkscape, we only know Inkscape. And that means that we can help with anything up until you press the "Cut" button. After the image is in the cutter, it's all up to the cutter, and we don't know anything about them.

I suppose I could suggest making sure that it didn't accidentally get unplugged, and that all the connections are intact (whatever they are). I guess make sure you're getting power to the machine (did your lights go out). Beyond that, we're pretty clueless. If you have the user manual for the machine, it probably has a troublehsooting guide.

I'm sorry, I wish I could be more help.

need help here

Hi everyone, am sorry i don't know where else or how to post my question, thats why am posting on here instead of answering the question. But anyways i know i'm forgiven though. So i have a couple questions:
1. I am new to inkscape and i think its gonna be a good program to use, so i wanna know how to import images that i have stord in .EPS, .AI, .jpeg or .jpg format into inkscape and also to add color to the images because they are in plane black and white color.
2. My other question is that, i have a R31 series cutter from vinyl express SW. and the LXi software, so how can i use inkscape with to cut my images using that cutter plotter and also what do i need to do save my drawings so it can work with LXi software.

Please anyone who answers these questions correctly has just saved me from a long term debt because i havent been able to do these things and i need help pleeease!!! :(

JPEG and JPG are raster formats and you won't be able to edit them in Inkscape -- at all. EPS, from what I understand, can have both raster and vector content. If it's raster content, you won't be able to edit it at all. AI is all vector, and will be editable in Inkscape, if you can open it. Some people have trouble opening AI files though, and I don't know why. Rasters can be imported using File menu > Import. The AI, if you can open it, use File menu > Open.

I don't know anything about your kind of cutter, and very little about them in general. I do know that a lot of them are made so that you can only use their software. So there's a chance that you won't be able to use Inksape with it. But hopefully someone will be able to help. Cross fingers! :D

Just over a month after the question was posted, I've come across this topic, so I'll answer as though the folk who asked might still be looking for the answers.

For using your raster images ( just like Brynn said) you cant edit them in Inkscape as they are. You can use bitmap/trace to vectorize some of them amd make them editable.
..or you can edit them in a program like the Gimp.
Here is a list of file formats that can be imported to Lxi
http://www.signwarehouse.com/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=6
Oddly enough, SVG isn't on the list, but pdf and eps both are, as well as hpg and dxf.
You can import many kinds of bitmap files into Lxi without converting them first, though you'll need vector paths for cutting.
Looks like you have a pretty good range of options, so far as file formats than can be imported.
Good luck
