Is there like an eraser in inkscape? Also, I was wondering if you could do like a object to selection, so It selects the object and maybe you could make the selection smaller.

There's no eraser because you can't erase arbitrary sections of the image. Vector images work based on objects, not colored pixels. You can delete an entire object, but it's trickier to delete just a section of it. If you want to make a hole in an object you can use the Difference option in the Path menu. Create a new object in the shape of the hole you want, select the hole-object and the object you want the hole in and to Path -> Difference. Unfortunately, if the object-needing-a-hole isn't a path, it will be converted to one, losing any object-specific attributes. Also, if you need a hole through every object that overlaps at a certain point, you'll need to make a bunch of duplicates of the hole-shaped object and use Difference multiple times.

As for the selection, again, it's a different work-flow than Gimp. In raster editing, you can select an arbitrary set of pixels and grow or shrink or transform the selection in other ways. But in Inkscape, you can only select objects. A "selection" isn't something you can manipulate, like in Gimp. It's just a set of objects that are "selected."

kelan pretty much covered it, if you are wanting to delete from a single object tho, and you dont mind it being turned into a path, using the caligraphy tool and then doing a boolean subtract (ctrl+-) works pretty well. just draw over what you want to delete, select both shapes and do ctrl+-

There is an eraser tool now, but the concept of shrinking the selection is not how vectors work -you select an object and not an area.
