Save status/position of side menus

Postby johndoe31415 » Thu Mar 29, 2012 5:58 pm

Hi forum,

there are two side menus of Inkscape that I use *all* the time: "Fill and Stroke" and "Align and Distribute". I always open them up first thing when I load a document. But even when I "lock" the status of these side menus, as soon as I open another file, it's all back to defaults (and I'll have to open them up again). Is there a way to make them open up immediately on loading a document/creating a new file? Or is there a place that I can put in a "startup" executable script (something like python-fu or script-fu in gimp) that is always executed upon startup and that I could use for this?

Best regards,
Joe

Welcome to the forum!

I can tell you that it's not possible to do through existing settings or preferences. There may be some way to do it via script, but I couldn't tell you how, if there is. I can also say that something like this has already been requested as a new feature. Better window management, in general, is much requested, which means there's a good chance it will eventually make it into the program. But I haven't heard how soon it might be expected.

If it can be done via script, someone else will reply about that :D

If I remember correctly I read (on the Google+ site or some blog? not sure where...) that somebody took care of this issue. So it will probably/hopefully be included in one of the next releases.
