Saving as pdf with smooth nodes and stroke width 0.01mm

Postby Mariam87 » Thu Aug 20, 2015 2:21 am

Hi again :D ,

I have a problem saving files as pdf when the path has smooth nodes and it's stroke width is 0.01mm. I need to have the stroke style width 0.01mm to be able to cut it with laser or vinyl cutter. When I open the pdf file it's empty and when I open it again with inkscape I find nothing.
This only happens when the stroke width is 0.01mm. How can I solve this ?

This is simple design I am trying to save.

0,01 mm is quite thin, I remember there was another topic on a pdf problem with such a stroke.
Would suggest trying to change the cutter's setting to a wider stroke input instead.

Known issue in the external library (cairo) Inkscape uses for PDF export, tracked for Inkscape here:

Thank you for your reply,

Well, we can't change the machine setting. The weird thing is that when I have cusp nodes, I can save it with 0.01mm with no problem, But when I have smooth nodes, here the problem happens.

Another observation that this happens on my laptop. In the Fab Lab where I go we didn't face this problem, we always save with this setting and I can see the pdf normally. Does the pc/laptop specification itself makes a diffrence?

Thank you

The PC/laptop specification itself won't make a difference - what does though is the version of cairo which Inkscape installed on that system uses (older versions of cairo did not have this issue). Details may vary depending on the OS installed on the PC - with any kind of Linux distro installed, cairo is provided by the system; with Windows (or OS X), cairo is included in the Inkscape package for that OS.

For Windows, a possible workaround might be to use the 32bit installer packages for Inkscape (they include a rather dated version of cairo which is not affected by this specific issue).
