Scaling a drawing hides most of it.

Postby Packtramp » Fri Nov 14, 2014 1:49 pm

I have scaled a drawing larger and only a small box in the corner of my image is now visible. I am not sure what is wrong.
I did CTRL-A
I selected the top right of the box and holding CTRL dragged it to scale the image larger.
Afterwards, only a small square is visible at the bottom left of the newly scaled drawing.
Help please! :)
I have attached before and after photos. I am new to inkscape, so please forgive if I have overlooked something simple. #vectornewb

Hi.

It's hard to tell from that screenshot what causes that rendering issue.
Similar can happen if you use a fill pattern made of clipped objects.
Look at the bottom indication bar, to see what kind of object are you scaling.

Hello,

I've had similar problems when importing-exporting vector art from other places and programs. Even in SVG format because Inkscape have only a partial support of some features of it. Things like SVG embedded in SVG, some shapes like polygons, etc.

It's true what Lazur says. You have to check the indicator bar at the bottom. To see if the problem is related to clipping paths, you can also change the display mode (Ctrl + 5) to Outline. The clipping paths are shown in green outline.

A generic solution may be copy and pasting the visible artwork in another blank svg file. But some information or hidden features may be lost.

As always, to provide better information, the problematic file, or at least a sample file is needed.

Greetings

Thanks for the responses!
I've attached the file.
I looked at the bottom, but I must have overlooked anything describing the file type....

The original svg works fine if "handled with care" by exiting the clipped group (Ctrl+Backspace).
This one after ungrouping and regrouping should work fluently -the clipping got removed.

Using Menu: View>Display mode>Outline you can see the large clipping object.

Another easy way out: Select all visible objects and paste into new document, drag to scale.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Thank you so much for the help and the file!
Now I will go try to learn it by repeating to make sure I have both ways down pat.
What was it doing though?
Thanks!!

You entered the clipped group and moved the object out of the clipping area by scaling.
Probably.
Because from the outlines only displayed screenshot the clipping area seems a bit larger.
Maybe you have scaled that part down a bit before as well.
