Hi, this is my first post, I apologize if I am not posting correctly. I read the rules and the tips to follow before posting and I have also searched the forums and google but have not been able to find a solution to my problem. All of the posts that I looked at were solved by exporting the bitmap instead of doing save as. I have always used the export option and it has worked in the past but now it has stopped. Here is what I mean:
I have recently updated my mac to osx mavericks and updated xquartz so I thought maybe Inkscape got messed up during the updates. However, I have experienced the same problem on my other computer running Inkscape on Ubuntu. I have no idea why this has suddenly started happening. The problem also appears when I zoom in and out while working on the project:
I have noticed that the problem has to do with the curve of the rectangle, the shading is absent where the rectangle is not curved. When I adjust the curve the shading changes. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure if that helps but you can try to group the objects first and then apply the filter on the groups,
and not on the objects inside them.
Even if there is one rectangle only.
This trick can take transformations off of the filters.

Thanks for the suggestion. The objects are already in one group before I apply the filter. I tried using one rectangle only and making it its on group but that didn't work either. If I open the projects that exported successfully and edit them I have found that I can get it to work how I want. Very weird.

Hmm maybe the filter itself you used got changed in the two different verisons you worked with?
Check out the filter editor panel how a good filtered object's settings differ to a problematic one.
