LaTeX fonts in Inkscape

Postby c_verres » Wed Jul 13, 2011 1:03 am

Hi,

I create images with gnuplot (via the epslatex terminal with the standalone option). The resulting PS file is converted to EPS.

As I want to add further images to that EPS file, I would like to open it with Inkscape 0.48.1. However, if I import it, I normally lose the LaTeX fonts. Some time ago, I found out that I can install the LM fonts http://www.gust.org.pl/projects/e-foundry/latin-modern/download to overcome that. That was fine.

But now it does not work again.

What shall I do? :?

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with LaTex, LaTex fonts, LM fonts or GnuPlot at all, and EPS format very little (so I'm unable to test). I know that we have members who do have knowledge about those, but who probably don't visit the forum every day. So probably someone can give you some ideas, but it might not be right away, unfortunately. I guess I could get some basic questions answered though, to make it easier when they get here.

  • What is your operating system?
  • Can you think of anything you might have done (or that might have happened), between the last time it worked properly, and the first time it stopped working, that might have affected this? E.G. - if on Windows, did you Restore the system? Any crashes? Any upgrades or updates or re-installs of these programs?
  • When you say
But now it does not work again.

do you mean that the same thing happens with the LM fonts that was happening with the LaTex fonts, i.e. - when you import the EPS file, the LM fonts have disappeared? Or is it not working in some other way? This is all happening on one computer, right, the problem isn't happening on a different system than the one where it works properly?
  • I'm guessing that when you import the EPS, there is a dialog with several options. Is there one about how to handle text? Are you using the same option there as before?
  • Do you get any error messages, either in a popup box, or in the Inkscape status bar during or just after the Import? Especially the status bar! Actually, go ahead and try the import one more time, and keep an eye on the status bar. Sometimes the message there only lasts a couple of seconds. If there is one, please post it.
So if you could go ahead and post answers for those questions, whoever comes along to help will have a headstart.

Hang in there, I'm sure someone will be along before too long :D

Windows XP, SP3

No, except the regular Windows updates which run automatically.

Yes, LM fonts are already installed but in Inkscape I do not have the LaTeX fonts whenever I open an EPS file. The same as if I have not installed the LM fonts. Yeah, it's only on my computer.

I'm guessing that when you import the EPS, there is a dialog with several options. Is there one about how to handle text? Are you using the same option there as before?

Yes there is one (replace fonts by fonts with similar name). But it has no effect on the result.

No, no error message.

I don't know c_verres. I was hoping someone else might have an idea, but I see no replies for a few days.

Clearly something has changed to cause it to suddenly stop working, I just have no clue what to look for :(

OK, thanks brynn.

Do you have an idea where else I can ask someone my question?
