I was going to tinker with the meshed gradient tool. So made a simple rectangle and clicked on mesh gradient and it became an oval. Shouldn't this retain its original shape or do i have to configure some setting?
you can see it here

this should be easy but i'm not sure what i'm missing.
mesh gradient sq looks like circle
Re: mesh gradient sq looks like circle
Hi.
There is an option to set it conic or into the expected row-column form.
Can only set it when creating a new mesh gradient (Alt+M; toggle icon on the left).

Hi
Thanks for the reply but i'm not understanding. i created the rectangle and just chose the mesh gradient. Alt M doesn't seem to do anything on my mac. this seems so simple to do but yet it doesn't work. i've shown in the video below.
thank you for your help

Hi.
Alt+M is the shortkey for the mesh tool on win, not sure what interferes with in on mac.
Still, you need to switch the mesh mode from a conic mesh:

It might also be worth reading part 59 of my tutorial series, which covers Mesh Gradients and explains how the (fake) conic gradient relates to the normal rectangular version.

hi
Yes i use the mesh, not conic. Actually out of ideas i went and deleted my preferences.xml file and now the mesh works as it is suppose to so i don't know what i had done to change it but its all good now.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer a newbie question.
