Hi,
i'm not new to inkscape, and quite used to vector and any kind of drawing software, but now there's an Inkscape function that seems not working to me... anyone knows if is it me or else?
Win7x64/Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939
if I draw any simple object (eg: a 5 corner red star, named path5614) and with that selected choose "Object > Objects to marker"
I get
- the star disappearing
- a red _square_ marker named marker5616 appearing _only_in mid markers...
?? is this expected or did I missed something or..?
digging in my installation I also found a bundled "tutorial" in
<Inkscape>\share\tutorials\making_markers.svg
but honestly can't really understand, it seems a "trick" of some sort... and I don't know how is it related to the "Object > Objects to marker" menu selection, which is much more clearer, in theory...
anyone can point me to creating end/middle/start markers?
Thanks,
Marco
"object to marker": how to make it work?
Re: "object to marker": how to make it work?
Hi.
That option works fine here.
It seems you have to "refresh" the list of the markers before to make any new ones appear on the list.
Just click on the dropdown menu twice.
The marker's shape appears on the list, so if that star was the desired marker, it is too big for such "thumbnail", so it is represented by that square -7275- or is not on the list yet.
I belive the making markers tutorial refers on creating custom ones that are stored in inkscape files,
that can be used after closing and reopening the program.
The marker option in the object panel only creates markers for the design you working on.

Re: "object to marker": how to make it work?
Hi, thanks!
That's what I did, but I only got those "square" shapes...
gosh...! You're right... I just wished to experiment in making my own markers
I would never have thought of "too big shapes"...
I expected that "automatic" function to "normalize" any desired shape to a "standard size" for markers.
Thanks, now I got it.
Ok, so "Object > Objects to marker" is to create markers in the current document...
Is there any to make them permanent?
The tutorial seems to point to the need to alter the XML
I'll try that soon...
Thanks!
Marco
