falkland's PDF issue

Postby falkland » Thu Apr 04, 2013 6:52 am

Hello,

i have a similar problem. I try to convert and svg file into pdf, but Inkscape crashes all the time. Firstly, I would like to knowm how to find any log file. Although file has a size of 3,4 MB, I don't think it has to do with missing RAM has I have 16 GB.

Any ideas what i can do?

Best,

f.

[moderator edit - I've split these messages away from another topic, since it sounds like it has a different solution. The problem is Inkscape crashes when using Save As PDF. While the other topic appears to be about lack of RAM, this issue seems to be different.]

Here are a couple of ideas.

Idea One
Save your Inkscape file as plain .svg
Import plain .svg to The GIMP
Export The GIMP file as .pdf

Idea two
Save the inkscape file as plain .svg
Search the web for online file convertors, the benefit here is that the 'convertors' are specifically engineered to execute conversions and nothing else.

Hope this helps you out

If you could attach the SVG, I could at least try Save As on my end. I wouldn't know what to look for, as far as what might be causing the crashes, but others might know what to look for.

The only log file I know about pertains to....well, I guess it could be useful here. The op in this topic says where to find the log. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=820 It will list a lot of stuff, and most of it won't have anything to do with your current problem. If, after reading the first message in that topic, you can't figure out which item applies your PDF problem, you could post the log file here. Then people who know what all that stuff means, can let you know if it will solve your crash problem. Honestly, I don't think it will help. But on the chance it might, it won't hurt to have a look :D
