Hello,
I am having a problem, and I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
I had 0.47 inkscape installed. My machine is running XP SP3. I have run all the updates and my screen resolution is 1920x1080.
When I am trying to use inkscape, my canvas is completely unresponsive. The rest of the program responds fine (scroll bars, tools, menus). This happens when I open inkscape through a desktop shortcut, quickstart shortcut, or through program files/inkscape/inkscape.exe. I can also open a SVG file in inkscape, and though I can't click on any objects to select them on the canvas, I can click on the select all button and it will display the bounding boxes around the objects. I can even edit>>copy the selection and paste it in a new inkscape window (which canvas is also unresponsive).
I have uninstalled .47, deleted inkscape files (program files/inkscape and personal preferences), and reinstalled it to get the same problems. I have also uninstalled .47 and tried .48. I am getting the same problem. My task manager shows the program is responsive, and the program acts responsive as well except for the canvas.
Any thoughts?

Re: Canvas unresponsive
Couple of thoughts
Are you sure you're downloading the right version for XP? I believe this would be...http://downloads.sourceforge.net/inksca ... 48.0-1.exe
If so, try this. Open Inkscape, and look to see if Layer 1 is locked or visibility turned off.
If not, try to do something on the canvas that doesn't work, and then look in the info area (middle, bottom of window) to see if any helpful messages are shown. Maybe try to select something, then look and see what info is shown. Or try and draw something. Let us know what it says.

Do you use an extended input device like a tablet with a pen?Tyjthomas wrote:(…) my canvas is completely unresponsive. The rest of the program responds fine (scroll bars, tools, menus).
Re: Canvas unresponsive
Thanks for your posts! I figured it out because of your comments...
I have an wacom tablet I keep by my computer. It has a stylus as well as a mouse. I normally keep the mouse on the tablet just for storage. If inkscape is started and that mouse is on the tablet, the canvas is unresponsive. If I close inkscape and move the pointing devices off of the tablet and reopen inkscape, it works great.
...just a note to not start inkscape with your mouse on your tablet.
Thanks again for your help!
