[solved] When I save my figure as pdf some or all objects

Postby mattiasjoensson » Mon Apr 13, 2015 7:26 pm

Hi. I’m a new inkscape and I have a problem. When I save my figure as pdf, some or all objects disappear when I open the file in Adobe Reader. The size of the svg-file is 380 kB and the size of the pdf-file is only 15 kB. I started on a new document with default settings. I use win 7 and inkscape version 0.91.
I would be very graceful for help

Hi.

Without looking at the original svg I can only suggest not to use masking, but clipping instead where it's necessary. Lowered object opacity can also mess things up in some cases. Can you share the file?

Here is the file, I have simplified it a bit since the file was to big but the problem remains. After saving the file I can only see the green vertical bars.

The problem is caused by that you use filtered paths for clipping other paths.
By the pdf save the filter effect gets rasterized, therefore a raster image would need to make the clip which is not possible.
Two clipping weren't even necessary.

Thank you so much. So I can't use the "Blur and Clip Technique" demonstrated in this video tutorial "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA4fsVQMrN0" to get the 3d-effect?

The video was focusing on how to achieve the look of a complicated gradient which still works.
In regular svg terms it works fine, but it's a more polished way not to use a filtered object as a clipping path contrary what's in the tutorial.
You can either remove the filter from the path or use a duplicant of the original unblurred path for clipping.
