[SOLVED] Can't delete segment

Postby remrem » Sat Dec 24, 2011 3:45 am

Hi,

I have a problem with Inkscape, I would like to remove the black segment (in the green circle) so I have created 4 nodes at each side and then click on "Delete segment" but it deletes also the part on the left (in the red circle). I would like to keep it!

I have a lot of lines to removes like that but I don't know how to do it :(
Any hint?

Thanks!
Rémy

PS: I also tries "break path" but it's still the same problem...

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

When you say you clicked "Delete segment" was that "Delete segment between 2 non-endpoint nodes" button? When you place the mouse/pointer over the segment you want to remove, and click once, do the 2 nodes between which you want to remove the segment, become highlighted?

From the "after" screenshot, it looks like when you added the new nodes, some of them might have been added to the blue paths instead. I've had that problem myself, lol. I solve it by first zooming in. The more I zoom, the closer to the intersection I can place the new nodes. Then I select the segment where I want to add new nodes, then double-click to create the new node.

Even with these precautions, it can still be hard to add a new node at a precise intersection. Assuming this is your problem, you could also check Inkscape Preferences > Mouse. There you can change the click/drag sensitivity, and grab sensitivity. Actually I'm not sure if these settings affect new node placement, but I think the click/drag one does.

If after some investigation, you find this is not the problem, could you provide the SVG file? There could be other reasons for this, and it's hard to tell what are the elements involved by the screenshots.

Hi Brynn,

Thanks for your help!
Yes I mean the "Delete segment between 2 non-endpoint nodes" button and when I select the black segment the 2 nodes are highlighted, they are on the black segment, not on the blue one, I already checked that :)

I also wanted to precise that I have used the option "Stroke to path" before, so I can't create the node in the center of the path, I have to create 2 on the edges... I don't know if that the problem?

I have attached the SVG file, if you can tell me what is wrong it would be really appreciated :)

Thanks a lot!
Remy

Your problem is NOT that you can't delete the segment which is easy enough to do, bit that you are forgetting to JOIN the four nodes left with so that your path is filled corrctly. To do this you need to select the two nodes at one end and join them with the 5th button in the :tool_node: control bar.

Do the same with the two nodes at the other end, just to be thorough. You will have to be careful because there is a node from an invisible path lurking here.

Your mind is what you think it is.
