How to remove unwanted fill areas from SVG

Postby rbahumi » Wed Oct 16, 2013 8:20 pm

Hi,

This is my first day using Inkspace, and I am having some troubles..
I am trying to convert an SVG image to an "iconmon" font which only has Black & White colors http://icomoon.io/.

The issue is that my SVG image is getting "over-filled" with Black. These are the rules for importing a new SVG file to iconmon:
  • Strokes get ignored by the app. You can convert them to fills.
  • Unite/combine your fills.
  • Avoid using white fills. All of your fills will have one color after importing.
  • Don't use the evenodd fill-rule.

This is an SVG I have downloaded from the web, so I am not sure which of those rules I am violating:

The same issue occurs when trying to specify the "Fill and Stroke" option in Inkspace:

How can I make that same SVG to be used as a font?

Regards,
Roei.

Welcome aboard!

That was a group of paths.
By combining them in right order, you can get the desired look.

So select all objects and press Ctrl+Shift+G until the bottom indicator bar says no object can be ungrouped.
Set a single colour and add a transparency value, like 50%.

Then combine the hole parts together -press Ctrl+K after they are selected,
Do the same with the other paths as well.

Then select the two compound paths and combine them together.
Then change the opacity back to 100%.
