How to get a perfectly D shape path?

Postby AlfredBaudisch » Thu May 22, 2014 7:57 am

Hello,

I'm trying to achieve a perfectly D shape (to use as mountains, teeth and even the body of some cartoon characters) and I'm doing the following process, with the help of the grid to snap into position:

Create a square and in the exactly middle add a node:

Delete the top 2 left and right vertices:

CTRL+DEL the middle added vertice:

But it isn't perfectly shaped. Is is leaned towards the left side (the blue line is the middle in the grid, notice the top of the D is not exactly in the blue line);

So can I get the shape without requiring manual adjustment? (And even if I try manual adjustment it won't be totally balanced).

Thanks!

Ops, solved!

- Draw an ellipse.
- Draw a square and put in the middle of the ellipse.
- Path -> Difference.

Hi.

The difference moves the nodes with some 0,x pixels.

Without boolean operations it is the nodes that can be at accurate positions, the path segments have some inaccuracy from a circular shape.
What you could do for a "perfect" circular shape is to have more nodes on it -use the * tool and draw the shape from a polygon-, or
to add a spiro-path live path effect to the object.
