I have created a vector drawing that I want to import a bitmap into. The rulers for the vector drawing were set in inches with the default of 90dpi. The image I want to import is 300dpi and when I import it is it oversized. My eventual output is a 300 dpi png file so I'd like to work at 300 dpi internal to InkScape. Is there a way to reset the interl dpi of inkscpe to 300 dpi ?
The only idea I have now is to specify the page size in pixels and then redo the vector drawing in pixels with the page being sized apporpriatly for 300 dpi but this seems very inconvienent

Re: importing a bitmap
Personally I would work out what size you want the drawing to be in real world units (cm, inches) and size your page to those. Do your vector drawings ect at that scale.
Next, scale the imported bitmap by 90/300=0.3 using Object->Transform (shift+ctrl+M).
Then when exporting your image using file->export bimap set the dpi to 300dpi.

Re: importing a bitmap
tomh -- thanks for your reply. I found a way to make this work this AM -- I left the drawing as is and set the width of the imported bit map to what I needed. At export I set dpi for 300 and the image came through at full resolution.

Good to see you found the solution. There's also a FAQ entry about this if you're interested http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... nkscape.3F
