IE9 snagged my svg files

Postby TSPCO » Mon Jan 27, 2014 5:40 am

A week or so ago I noticed that IE9 made itself the default handler of svg files. I tried re associating them with Inkscape, in the "open with" dialog, you can browse to the inkscape exe, and select it but it will not stay. So I tried the other way around, selecting a program, and selecting what files for it to open, well I cannot make that work either. I don't know what changed with Inkscape or windows, but it is frustrating.
If anyone has had similar issues and /or found a work around let me know please

Hey there! Two ideas how to solve the problem:
1.
When you click on open with, did you check the box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"? (lower Left corner)

2.
You could try to change the default program for file types, just switch to the control panel (Change to icon view in the upper right corner) and go to "default programs". There is a entry "Associate a file type or protocol with a program". With this tool, you can easiy change, what program should open svgs :)

If this doesn't work either, you will probably have to change it, in the registry.

Tried that when you click browse, inkscape shows but when you click ok, it doesn't stay in the list under "other programs" Going the other way as you mentioned svg files are associated with IE, and you cannot remove the checkmark.

Hm, that is really strange. I've got no more ideas, but to fight through the registry. If you want I could help you with that via skype or TeamViewer :)
Or somebody else has any ideas, where the problem comes from :)
