inkscape won't export my entire image

Postby justme » Fri Mar 27, 2009 2:29 am

I'm a frustrated newbie... I converted a 72 ppi jpeg to a vector & it looks fantastic in Inkscape. However, when I export it to svg & open it in Gimp I get a cropped version containing only part of the subject. My best guess is the Inkscape isn't saving the image beyond the original canvas size & that the expaded subject is "overflowing". I've tried creating a new file without borders & import the subject into it & still get the same issue. Is there something i'm I'm not doing to assure this won't happen? Or is this really a Gimp Issue having to do with importing the vector image?

There are a few options for exporting. It sounds like it's exporting the page rather than the entire drawing. Either expand the canvas to fit your image or select the "Drawing" tab from the export dialogue.

Try export drawing rather than page. If that does not give you what you want. Add a layer to you you image and then draw a box that covers everything you want to export. Set the fill and stroke on the box to none. Then with the box selected do an export. Note you should put the no fill no stroke box on it's only layer because the only way you will be able to select it latter is via select all on layer cntl A. If that doesn't give you what you want post some images so we can see what is dropped. Or read this topic viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1327

Expanding the canvas to fit the image did the trick... thank you.
