Hello World!

Postby Amaranthim Talon » Fri Jul 15, 2011 3:57 am

Hello Inkscape denizens. I am completely new to InkScape having just opened it for the first time yesterday. I have no prior experience with vector programs either so I am sure this will be an interesting challenge. I do use Gimp and while I won't crow about my prowess with it, I can manage to craft a texture or two to use in my SecondLife and InWoldz creations.

That is what brought me to InkScape - a few months a go a friend discovered what beautiful clean lines she could accomplish using InkScape and I recently found a similar need. Anyone familiar with SecondLife knows how ragged the avatar mesh is and how difficult it is to get as little pixelation as possible. It is my hope InkScape will help me with that. I am reading one of the online manuals now and flitting about the web looking for more, more, more info and how-to's. This site has already been a great font of links and information and I thank you all.

I already have a question but will do a bit of reading to see if it is touched on - forum search did not provide an easy answer so going to go read in case I just do not know the proper terms yet to frame the search.

And that then there is a bit about me ~

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

Ah yes, clean lines is what brought me to Inkscape and vector graphics, as well. This forum tends not to be very social in nature, but you won't find better support for Inkscape anywhere else! Whenever you're ready, just let us know (in the Help forum) and we'll do our best to help :D

True. The forum's not much of a social "hang out". Brynn's links in her siggy point to Heathenx's video tutorials. I recommend them STRONGLY if you want to get a visual handle on Inkscape.

The tutorials focus on goals: designing a licence plate, creating this or that. But don't let the end goal deceive you. As the teacher heads toward his destination he tells you what tools to use, where they're located and how to use them. In my humble opinion, an excellent way to show a student how to use 20 tools to get to a single destination. :)

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am eating it all up as I come across it. I think I am becoming a major Inkscape fan!
