problem with text path

Postby shorty1234 » Fri Apr 09, 2010 6:16 am

I typed some text around a circle to make a circular text path. The text is positioned on top of the circle when I view the image on my PC. When I send the plain svg file to a mac user, the text moved to the side of the circle.

What can I do so that the text position (in relation to the circular text path) is the same on both my PC and my friend's Mac? She is running Inkscape on the Mac and I am running Inkscape on a PC (with Vista).

I would firstly make sure you are both running the current version of Inkscape.

Secondly, I would send the Inkscape SVG instead of the plain SVG and see if that makes a difference.

If you still have issues, I would log a bug with the developers. Then as a work around I would convert the text to a path (so long as the MAC user doesn't have to edit the text).

It could be that she doesn't have the font you used in your drawing. Converting the text into a path would solve this.

You were right that my friend did not have the font installed on her Mac. Converting to a text path solved the problem.

Now I am going to try to use a font which is supported on the Mac and not convert the text to a path since I want people to have the ability to edit the text.

Thanks for the advice.
