Removing shape

Postby oldeagle008 » Wed Jan 21, 2015 12:46 am

I would like to remove parts of a shape by using another shape as a "cookie cutter".

In the enclosed file there are two red shapes. Those parts of the image should actually be transparent. But when I remove those red shapes the blue shape below shows.

What I am trying to accomplish (i guess) is to use the red shapes as a coockie cutter to remove the blue colour on the shape below.

Hopelessly explained, I still hope someone understands.....

Thanks for all help!

Hi.

Combining the paths together can do the trick (Ctrl+K).
If the path directions are right and the fill rule set even-odd.

Good luck!

Hi

This one is easy.
(Problem with your mage is that each of the red objects are a group.)

a. Select the red object - Ungroup ( Shift Ctrl G )
b. Repeat a for the other red object.

c. Select the blue object - then one of the red objects (Hold down the Shift key to select both) - perform Path - Difference. ( Ctrl - )
d. Repeat c for the next red object.

Good Luck.

Thanks a lot, both, for helping me out on this one!

I followed the steps provided by Ragnar and that solved it perfectly.

Will also keep the link to the Inkskape Guide handy ;)
