Offset on unclosed paths

Postby andrus » Sun Apr 27, 2014 1:54 am

Hello, I've started learning inkscape in order to remake a raster map from a videogame using paths. The problem is, I've encountered a few spots where the road is 1,5 or 2 pixels wide. I was looking for a tool that would transform my paths into 2 separate ptahs that are 1 pixel one from another, and I found the Offset tool. The problem is, it requires a closed path to work and it just forces my path to closed by linking their ends. Is there a way to make it work on unclosed paths too, or is there any other tool capable of doing it?

What I have:

What offset tool does:

What I want to have:

Here I've just created a second path by hand, but I've already created a few dozens of paths that are much more complicated than this one. Is there a solution to this problem?

Hi.

Either way, offsetting results in a closed path:

1. Dynamic offsetting.
Once option chosen, you can add a radius value in the xml editor (Shift+Ctrl+X),
then convert the object to path (Ctrl+Shift+C), then use the node editor tool to unconnect the two end nodes.

It would take a repeat, for both sides, then combining them together, and a bit more editing
-Offsetting won't be added to the end nodes in the path's direction, it only moves nodes on a perpendicular line.-

2. Converting the stroke to path (Ctrl+Alt+C).
After adding a thicker line width to the "core" stroke, and converting it to a path, you will have something like on your example image.

The second method works perfectly, thank you very much!
