Help: Aligning/Constraining Objects to Project Page

Postby Mikewerk » Fri Mar 19, 2010 12:57 am

I've been using Inkscape for about a year to render individual objects to use in Photoshop and Gimp designs so I never encountered this issue before. But nonetheless I think this will classify as Noob question.
The project I'm working on is for a flag manufacturer and he wants the designs rendered entirely as .SVG files, so I'm designing the flags entirely in Inkscape.

I can't for the life of me find a way to make objects align exactly with the project edge. Whenever I move the nodes they are always just outside the edge or just inside the edge.
Any help or advice on how I can easily get an exact alignment of object edges with the project edge would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Mike

How are you currently aligning things?
You could use the Snap feature, or possibly a better way would be to use the Align and Distribute dialog (from the Object menu).

Either way, you'll get an precise alignment. However, even using those features, it might not appear that they are exactly aligned, to a grid or page border, or whatever. It has to do with Inkscape being vector graphics, which by definition means that pixels are meaningless. But being a computer program, Inkscape has to display it's pixel-less graphics on a pixel-based monitor. And the result, sometimes, is the appearance that snaps or alignments aren't precise. But really they are, so no worries!

Does this answer your question, or have I misunderstood?
