Inkscape Icon

Postby It's a Squid » Thu May 15, 2008 12:16 pm

What is the Inkscape icon?

I think it looks like a squid and my friend says it looks like a mountain with an ink spill under it.

Both make sense:
  • Inkscape as in landscape, which includes mountains
  • Inkscape as in what octopuses (similar in appearance to squid) release

Your friend is correct--it's a snow-capped mountain which blends into an ink spill. I have no idea how you see a squid :D

Don't let microUgly fool you. The icon is really the Unicorn of Open Source flying over an ocean, painting it ink black with its scapey tail. You can clearly see the splashes of fish jumping out of the water to meet the Unicorn, and, in the background, the wry smile of the man in the moon.

That was my second guess, kelan.

I still think it looks more like a squid though.

I don't know what a squid looks like, but I could see it resembling a jellyfish.
I've always been torn between mountain with trees and road under/in foreground; a shaving from sharpening a pencil, standing up; or corkscrew. I guess a shaving from sharpening a pencil, is my best guess.

Heheh, I can see the pencil shaving. Funny how people see things differently. I only ever seen it as what it was meant to be. Although that could be because I'm familiar with the Quicksilver logo and they both share a very similar representation of a mountain.

I have no idea where brynn's post I quoted above disappeared to.

I thought better of posting it, thinking it might be seen as inappropriate, and deleted it immediately after I posted it. I can't believe you managed to see it! Oh well, no offense intended. And btw, this is NOT the missing message I posted about in the Website Issues forum.
