Equivalence command PRODUCT

Postby inksig » Sat Feb 12, 2011 1:00 am

Hi

I'm trying to apply transparency to a layer.
I'm searching the command equivalent to "PRODUCT" (in Illustrator).
Is it possible to find it in Inkscape?

I'm not sure about the name "PRODUCT" because that's the litteral's translation from french word "PRODUIT".

Thanks

I'm not entirely sure how one adds transparency to a layer :) Do you by any chance refer to opacity masks?

If you need a progressive transparency there is an opacity slider below in the Layers dialog box.

Or if you want a customizable transparency, you could apply a filter to the layer like in the joined file.

I added a filter which adds a transparency based on luminance and which allows to customize its contrast.

To better understand, simply import an image into the filtered layer (which is the active one), then open the Layers dialog, select the layer below and draw any shape under your image.

How to add a filter to a layer :

- Open a new document

- Open the Layers dialog (Shift+Ctrl+L) and click on "+" to add a new layer

- Open the Filters Editor (Filters/Filter Editor)

- Change the Layer blend mode (for example to Multiply) ; you will seee a new filter appearing in the Filters Editor

- Draw any shape on your canvas, keep it selected and click in the box left to the filter name ; now the filter is applied to the layer and the shape togheter

- Keep your shape selected and choose any filter in the Filters menu ; now the filter you have added is combined with the layer filter

- Remove the shape ; now any thing you draw or import in this layer will be filtered.

Hi inksig, Image
Welcome to InkscapeForum!

I'm not sure about the name "PRODUCT" because that's the litteral's translation from french word "PRODUIT".

Maybe "produce"? Maybe something like "apply"? Maybe "produit" button is like 'apply' or 'ok'? So that it's not the actual process, but the button that performs the process??

Let us know how it's going. All best :D

I'm thinking you mean Multiply Blend Mode (i.e. product is another term for multiply).

It makes white transparent, which might be what you want.

This is available in the layer dialog.
