Hi Friends,
I can't tell you how happy I am to find this forum! I'm not a professional or graphic artist or coder, so the various SourceForge communities have not been useful for me. But I've actually posted there a couple of times, out of frustration, knowing it was an inappropriate place to get help, because I could find absolutely no other way to contact anyone in the Inkscape community. In fact, I just posted there yesterday, where I was told that these forums were recently created.
One thing I can't understand though -- why is there no link to, or even mention of these forums on inkscape.org??? IMO, membership in these forums would skyrocket, if only the various other Inkscape communities would mention and link to here. I have a sense that I'm not alone in needing support forums like this!
So, about me -- obviously I tend to speak my mind But, I don't expect it will ever come into play, in these forums. For the most part, I will be asking for help, and trying my best to help others. Although I'm all but a rank beginner, and it may be a while before I learn enough to help others.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting folks here, and of course learning some of the tricks and secrets to Inkscape.
All best.

Re: Hello from a new member
Welcome, brynn. I'm glad you found us.
The official Inkscape community is the mailing list and is a good resource for information and help, and the best way to communicate with Inkscape developers.
There was a quite lengthy debate about the appropriateness of a forum for the Inkscape community before I created this site. Many Inkscapers felt that such a forum would create a division within the community and a dilution of knowledge. I didn't feel the situation was so apocalyptic and I'm of the opinion that more communities means knowledge is more easily spread. And some people, like myself, prefer forums over mailing lists. Inkscape.org were prepared to host a forum if someone ran it.
Anyway, whilst Inkscape.org does not promote this forum I have no problem with that. Anyone can create a forum with no knowledge at all, and tomorrow it may be gone. I'm relatively new to Inkscape and the already established community knows nothing about me - so I wouldn't promote this forum either. I could let a lot of people down.
For that reason I work very hard to help everyone as best I can despite my limited knowledge to make sure this forum becomes a useful resource. And I've learned a lot by helping others.

AAHHH!
So you and I have something in common. I dislike the mailing list format also. And the subject of my recent posting at SourceForge was an offer to open some free forums in the MSN Groups community (simply because I'm familiar with their templates, and don't quite know enough to run a phpBB forum like this). While I would be able to answer very few questions, I said I was willing to create and manage the forums, in exchange for what I would learn along the way, plus I could have my own questions answered. They removed it pretty quick, but one of the upper eschelon(sp?) did reply to me with the address to this forum. So while they may not be publicly promoting these forums, they are not keeping it a secret either. Possibly a good sign??
Well anyway, thanks for having me

I think the outcome of the mail discussion the other day was that we were going to link to here from the homepage. I certainly think we should be.
