Saving file as .eps issues
So i have made something that i need to submit as .eps or .ai and when I save it, i open it in Inkscape and it will not work, gives me an error. is there a problem with the drawing or something???

I don't remember what it's called, but you'll need to have some program installed which is capable of opening an EPS file. (You can find out by following the instructions in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=820.) The best advice is probably to make sure you're finished with the image, before converting to EPS. Probably you should save as SVG first. Then if you need to edit, you don't have to start all over.

Re: Saving file as .eps issues
Inkscape can't view an EPS file. I use a free program called GS (Ghostscript) as a viewer, actually there's a GS program and a GS viewer, so be sure to download both, it's a free program.
What I do is draw in Inkscape, export as a PNG, open in GIMP, then save as EPS in GIMP. Then to further view it, open in GS viewer.
hope that helps.

But EPS doesn't really support layers (i.e. there is no default approach for saving layers)...?

Each object you make can be, what's called "Z indexed". You can take everything you put on it's own layer and put it on a one layer page. Select the object(s) in one layer, go to Edit, then copy, and select the layer you want all you're layers on. Go back up to Edit and find the "Paste in place" feature and everything that was specifically placed in one layer will now be in the same exact place on the new layer. Then just index them how you see fit by using the page up and page down buttons on your keyboard. This way, if you post an object on the new layer that represents land, and the object that represents water is on top of the land, all you have to do is tap the page down button. =) I hope this helps.
