Issues with saving/exporting

Postby Yata » Thu Mar 13, 2008 1:10 pm

Hello,
I'm quite new to the world of vectors and normally work with fractals, so I'm oblivious to most of this.

I drew a simple design in inkscape using the pencil tool and I'm not too sure how to save it

I don't want a .svg file, rather a .png so I can edit it in a raster editor, and I can't seem to find an option to save/export it as one.

Can anyone be of help?
Thank you

Edit:
Ah, I found it. I didn't expect "export to bitmap" to be a .png, I thought it was a .bmp

I don't think your the only one who would be confused by that. But I believe in future you'll get a selection of bitmap formats to choose from and I personally struggle to think of a more generic term that they could use.

I had the exact same problem, not too long ago. To me, the word bitmap translates to .bmp files. And I didn't want a .bmp because they're typically HUGE. I specifically wanted a .png (because they're typically smaller).

I do understand that the word 'bitmap' is used to describe raster graphic formats. To me, the problem is that 'bitmap' is too generic. I had expected something more specific, ie - that "Make a bitmap copy" meant 'make a .bmp copy', or if a .png copy is available, that the menu should say 'make a .png copy'.

So anyway, just wanted to share my experience, and why "Make a bitmap copy" didn't work for me. I'm glad there will be a selection of formats in the future. Then it will be crystal clear!

All best :D

Never having to work with other formats other than the normal raster graphics and some xml flame files, it completely dumbfounded me until I saw the extension in the "Browse..." box.

Hi, I don't want to create a new topic, because I think, that it can be something really simple and obvious.
I was looking for some help in these topics though, but I didn't find anything :?
My problem:
When I am working with some (for example imported) picture and I want to save it in original quality, I don't know how to do it.
I was looking for "Save as .bmp" or something like that. :?:
Picture, exported in .png was out of focus, useless.
Thanks for help..

So you've imported an bitmap into Inkscape, and when you export the SVG the original bitmap is blurry? I can think of only think of this happening if you are exporting the SVG at a different size to the original bitmap--in which case its to be expected. If you feel my diagnosis is incorrect, you'll need to provide some examples.
