Retrieve XML code

Postby Wykiwyc » Sun May 08, 2011 1:09 am

Hi,

First, sorry for my really bad english, I'm french. I tried to avoid mistakes but I'll probably make plenty of faults so... I apologize.

Personally, I use a lot the XML code in Inkscape to make very precises diagram (like a diagram of a clock I made and which needed to make thinks very precisely ) and to visualize quickly the result (because use the notepad, save and run in Opera is quiet long).
But when I want to animate my SVG, I'm obligated to retrieve the XML code manually to put it into Notepad++ and program my animation, which is soooooo long ^^

So an option "retrieve the XML code" would be really interesting : clicking the button put the XML code in the paperweight (not sure you use the same word in english) to copy in notepad.

Welcome Wykiwyc!

I'm probably not familiar enough with your issue to discuss it. But I do know that Inkscape includes an XML Editor (access from Edit menu). Although I suppose copy/paste from that editor would be too easy?

I think the eqivalent of "paperweight" in English, in Windows (not sure about other os) is probably "clipboard".

All best :D

Yes it's probably clipboard.

Thanks for your welcome message.

Indeed there is an XML editor but inkscape formate the code to make it clear so you can't just use ctrl+c, ctrl+v ^^

Ah, well, as I said, I'm not terribly familiar, but I thought I'd take a shot
Hopefully you'll get some more, more informed discussion in the next few days :D

Edit -- But I'll bet that this could be done with a script. And I wouldn't be surprised if someone hasn't already done something like that. If you haven't already, you might search A) the internet; B) this forum; and C) Launchpad (Inkscape bug tracker) (https://launchpad.net/inkscape). There may already be a new feature request for such a feature (at Launchpad), to which you could add your support. Or with any of these searches, you might actually find an existing script!

(Or even search mailing list -- a link to archives can be found here: http://inkscape.org/mailing_lists.php?lang=en)
