[solved] Filling does not follow attached object

Postby NIGRONE » Tue Jun 28, 2016 5:30 pm

Hello ...
I am using Inkscape 0.91(French version) on a windows 10 (64 bits) OS , and I am experiencing a strange problem :
A you will see on the attached Inkscape file , I created a simple Rectangle , on which I applied a "linear degradé".
In a 1rst step every thing looked OK, but when i started to move the created Rectangle, I observered that the "Degradé" was not following
the rectangle !!!!!

Could you tell me what could I have done wrong to be experiencing this problem ?
And what should I do to correct it .

In advance many thanks for your help.

Regards
Pierre

Hi.

Sounds like you need to toggle the icon at the top first.

Note
If you want a Gradient to transform with an object, you must toggle on this option using the Image icon that is in the Tool Controls when the Select Tool is in use.

Thanks for your answer....
But I am still in the dark....
According to documentation, a "Gradient" should be automaticaly attached to an Object, if the "Fill & Stoke" dialog is invoked after selection an Object (in my case the rectangle ...).
But apparently it does behave as mentionned in the doc.

The Gradient looks stucked to the position it was initialy applied to the Object. So if the object is moved (after being selected...) the gradient does not follow the object, and depending on how far you move the object , the gradient is completely lost !!!!! You get it bak visible , if the object is moved back to its original location ....

It seems to be a bug !!! sorry about that .....unless since I am a new Inkscape user, I may be missing something important.

Regards.

Last used style is remembered. If you have untoggled it sometime (by accident) you need to toggle it back.

Hi Pierre, did you understand the instructions in Lazur's first answer? The small icon "Transform gradients with object" must be "on/highlighted" if you want to drag your gradient along with the object. From your description you have it turned off. The behavior is not a bug but is designed so you can use the gradient tool to fill multiple objects with the same gradient.
Along with the preferences choice for the gradient tool that says, "Prevent sharing of gradient definitions" this gives users a very flexible gradient tool.
Your mind is what you think it is.

Hi every body..
Thanks Druban ...You are right ....I had not quite understood Lazur 1rst message.
And on top of that the "Transform gradients with Object" is so small that I completely Zapped it.

Sorry for suspecting my problem being an InkScape bug !!!!
( But You certainly have noticed that my little experience with Inkscape could have been the cause of my troubles ...hahaha !!!)

Anyway ...Thanks a lot.
Regards.
Pierre
