Hi everyone,
I'm new to inkscape (very neew indeed), i'm trying to draw a logo.
The template is a picture from the Internet ( it's a slice of cake).
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help or know of some good tutorials.
Thanks a lot.
Jennifer

Welcome to InkscapeForum!
You'll find some helpful tutorials in Help menu > Inkscape manual > Quick Start. At least one if them is about making a logo. All of those tutorials cover the basic skills you need to use Inkscape successfully.
In order to offer any specific suggestions, we'd need to see the image you have, and at least know something about the style you want for the logo.
If you have never used Inkscape, it might not hurt to go through Help menu > Tutorials. And you may want to work through one or more of the tutorials in the previously mentioned Quick Start chapter, just to learn how to use the basic tools, before you start on your logo. At least that's how I would approach it. Of course there are plenty of people who have 1 project, and prefer to learn Inkscape while they complete that 1 project. But in most cases, in my opinion, they could have a better result if they had learned the skills before starting their project. But that's just my opinion
Also, don't miss the info in my forum signature

Thanks a lot Brynn.
I have the same approach don't worry..i've been playing around with Inkscape for 2/3 weeks now but i could never manage to actually "do" something. So my idea is to get through as many tutorial as i can ( related to logos, etc etc..) .

Re: Logo
Welcome Jennifer,
I have a recommendation on getting started - I've found that the YouTube tutorials are the best way (for me anyway), as I can pause the video, then bring up Inkscape and draw the same thing side by side, it takes a while to do, but very well worth it, and, if you get stuck you can write the owner a comment and tell them at exactly what point you got stuck.
My fav video series is from a guy named Benjamin - he used to have a good forum, but no longer (thx to spammers and trolls), however, his tuts are still on youtube. Here's a link to one of his videos, I recommend that you start from video #1 and do them in order, he's arranged them in order to train a newbie, and even if you know something, he might have a shortcut. note: his videos get better over time, he did these ages ago, but still one of the best series.

Hi,
This may be an 'old school' approach, I am a logo nerd and an Inkoholic ♨_♨. The biggest impact I have experienced in designing logos was for me to 'finally' visit my local public library. I checked out two books on 'designing logos'. I am not a heavy reader, but I was addicted to the experience of simply reading about logo design.
Here is a compiled listing of Inkscape tutorials:

The Inkscape unicode feature maybe something you would be interested in, a tutorial is available at the link above.
Here is a keyboard shortcut table, I avoided using shortcuts for a long time. Now I feel like "Mr Dee Dee Dee" ε(๏̯͡๏)з, shortcuts make ANY program easier to use. And Inkscape has an extensive set of shortcuts.
