Uggly Icons, how to get a clean iconfont?

Postby fresch » Tue Nov 10, 2015 7:38 am

Hi,

I'm trying to create Icon fonts but keep getting this uggle result in Webpages.
In Inkscape everything seems okay, but on webpages Icons are way too much, too bold..

I believe I've watched all videos on Youtube.

Do you know of any videos / tutorials how to create a clean Icon Font with
several ways of creating glyphs, importing SVG etc?

Or do you have any idea what's going wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Fred

I found some info here, on how to make fonts: https://fontlibrary.org/en/guidebook It's more about creating fonts for the Open Font Library, but still might find some tips.

Edit
I tried making some tiny icons, using Inkscape's Symbol editor. But it seems that weird things happen when images get tiny. They look perfect zoomed in, but our human eyes do funky things, when they're tiny. I haven't learned yet how to handle it.

Hi.

Isn't it about hinting?

Omg, I'm starting to think maybe learning how to make fonts will be much harder than I imagined! I read that article, but it really didn't tell me much. Well maybe if I read the other articles in the series, it would help. But mostly it left me thinking there are secrets to font-making that he didn't want to come right out and say.

Hi Guys,

I'll start reading the fontlibrary.
Looks like hinting isn't available in Inkscape.

Thanks for thinking along.

Hinting is device, os and even browser specific too.

If you want an "exact" match on the rendered pixels you need to use a rasterized copy I guess.
