Hi, I'm attempting to apply a drop shadow to a box with a cross through it. When I select the box and add the shadow it looks great. However when I have either line selected and attempt to add the drop shadow, the line basically disappears. I tried all the options in the drop shadow pane. What am I doing wrong?
FYI both lines are bezier curves (afaik this is the only way to draw a straight line).
Thanks
Line disappears when applying drop shadow
Re: Line disappears when applying drop shadow
Hi.
Technically the difference between those is that the sraight line segment is probably an open path with a stroke and no fill,
while the other has a closed area.
A general way to avoid problems with filters is to group the object first, and then apply the filter to the group itself.
This can make a good use when you want to transform the shape without transforming -like scaling- the filter effect.
I haven't tried it with the mentioned filter but think it will work.

Re: Line disappears when applying drop shadow
Yes that does seem to work. Thank you!
Now I'm having another problem however. I already saved the previous version; now when I reopen, how do I remove the previous drop shadow that was just around the box?
Thanks

Re: Line disappears when applying drop shadow
At the bottom of the filter list there is a remove filters option.
And it may be a good idea to vacuum defs/clean document (file menu) after.

Perfect. Thank you.
What does that do?

Re: Line disappears when applying drop shadow
Filters, gradients, custom markers, path effects, clipping masks are stored outside an object, so that you can apply the same setting for more objects.
If you remove the filter being used from the object, it may still be there -can check in the filter editor for example-.
That option deletes these unused parts of the document in the <defs> section.
