I'm a graphics designer and I got to say Inkscape has so many great features that sometimes I'm questioning how could this program be free.
It could easily compete with other professional vector programs like Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw and Affinity Designer, but since it doesn't have CMYK color mode for proofing and exporting there's now way I can use it for my work.
I always need to see how will the colors look before printing them and also need to export my work in CMYK color mode in PDF/X-3.
When a company has specified that their logo has 100% cyan and 50% magenta, I can't work in RGB mode and then convert it to "similar looking" CMYK colors.
I really wish some kind of support was added in this and know probably many people have already requested this before, but I'm still trying to remind developers of how important these features are...
Inkscape NEEDS CMYK Color Mode
Re: Inkscape NEEDS CMYK Color Mode
If you want to support the effort, you can tell us in which ways here (be sure to read the full thread first):
https://gitlab.com/inkscape/vectors/general/issues/45
(devs know it's important, but there's nobody who can do it atm. Inkscape is a program written by and for its users.
If you can help find someone who would be interested, or help us set up a concrete plan as for what is needed, or <insert your own idea here> - do it )

In the meantime, maybe you have seen this workaround:

Not very convenient, but you might find it useful.

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: Inkscape NEEDS CMYK Color Mode
I agree with you IcyPro. CMYK and spot color support would be great in Inkscape. It definitely holds back many in industry from adopting Inkscape. I don't have the technical skills to code such a solution but have enough to know how difficult it could be. In the end, it has to be able to output a PDF with a riding color profile in a few key versions of PDF. Anything else won't be useful in many industries. As is, I don't think cario is up to this. Be great if it could do color separations too, but that is another can of worms. Probably needs LAB support too. I just keep my fingers crossed and remain patient.

Waiting won't move the project forwards - Inkscape needs people who *do* something for this...

Re: Inkscape NEEDS CMYK Color Mode
phiscribe could you please add to that issue on GitLab? Your observations won't do much good in here (this forum is mostly user support). Your experience is invaluable to Inkscape to figure out what is missing, which way to go, industry pain points etc. Expand if you can on all points if you can.
That issue is a bit heated in places, it shows how important this topic is, and we need a lot more input to get to a spec we can follow reliably. https://gitlab.com/inkscape/vectors/general/issues/45
You can consider that your contribution to developing CMYK support in Inkscape But if you know of any more people or companies who can shed more light let us know. It's possible some companies would be interested in sponsoring this big task if regular users donations aren't enough.
