Need grid in workspace only.

Postby Drexl » Tue Jul 12, 2011 8:21 am

I'd like to know if there is a way to remove the grid from areas not in your defined workspace. In my case I have set my page size to 88x55 inches and only want a grid in that space so that I can type notes outside of it without the grid interfering with the text (making it harder to read). It's not the end of the world of course, but it would make my project less of a head-ache.

Thanks in advance! :)

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

No, unfortunately, there's not an Inkscape feature which allows for that. But depending on why you need a grid, I can think of a couple alternatives. One would be create a grid with Extensions menu > Render > Grid. First, draw a rectangle of the size of your page, and with it selected, create the grid. It does NOT provide all the features of the regular grid, but you could configure snapping to path intersections, and still snap to it.

The other alternative, is you can actually make the regular grid lines any color or opacity you want (in Document Properties). So I'm thinking you could make the grid lines, either white, or to match your page background. Or at least a color that doesn't make reading text difficult (maybe like yellow). Or much more transparent than the default.

I hope one of those will work for you. If not, let us know. Others might have better ideas :D
