How do I use the bezier tool efficiently

Postby Tropdoug » Thu Dec 04, 2014 7:13 pm

Hi,
I am new to using Vector Graphics to design in, I have been using GIMP for some years but not very deeply.

What I am trying to do is design a compound cut bracelet pattern for my woodworking business. I have a pattern as a PDF, but I want to re create in Inkscape to make it more flexible for sizing and other changes I might like to do.

The issue I am having is trying to recreate the curves in the pattern on the sides, (see attachment) I cannot get the curves of the ins and outs to be symetrical or the same size. I am presuming I can do just one side, then clone it, flip it horizontally and group it to the other side, and then simply copy to create the number of cut outs I need. But its getting the first one done that is my problem.

Can someone explain how to get symmetry and equality when using this tool.

Thanks
Doug

Although bezier tool might look like a best choice, you should try to reproduce this with shapes and than just leave the strokes as a guide for cutting.
If you`re somehow attached to the bezier tool, add another symmetry axis (y) and use the clones. That way you`ll be able to edit one quarter of the whole shape and the rest would follow. Enabling the snapping and the grid would lead you close to the triple rainbow ,)
