How to achieve a vertical wave effect?

Postby Markus00000 » Thu Apr 16, 2015 2:25 am

The capital "I" in the image should get the vertical flow of the path:

I tried "pattern along path" but I don't want to skew the "I".

A free hand sketch of the goal:

The vertical lines should be the same, the horizontal lines should follow the path.

You canget quite close with the envelope deform lpe.
Link duplicants of that wave shape for the top and bottom control paths.

The Bend, and/or Envelope Deform LPEs might work.

For myself, I would first try something called "node sculpting". You need to add more nodes first, like in attached. Then select all nodes. And then while holding Alt key, drag any individual node in the areas indicated by the red ellipses, in the direction indicated by the arrows.

Thanks for the replies!

Bend: Vertical lines don't stay vertical.

Node sculpting: Challenging, but I'll keep trying. Maybe just adding nodes and moving them with the keyboard, one vertical "line" after another, might work for me.

Trying the envelope deformation now. Why are the bend paths not vertical/horizontal like in the example link? The square of the four bend paths is rotated which makes them harder to adjust.

Most probably because you have some transformation involved.

Like, the path is inside a group that you have rotated sometime, and now you want to edit the path inside after entering the group.

After ungrouping everything the envelope deformation worked as expected, thanks.

In the end, I failed to achieve my goal with all three methods and instead drew the paths by hand.

Thought of something similar.

Wondering if in 0.91 the lpe was improved, and can use clones for control paths? And would follow the control paths fully?
