Inkspace does not re-load

Postby fairyt » Tue Jan 10, 2012 4:05 am

Inkspace stopped working. This has happened once before. Then I re-loaded Inkspace and everything was OK. Now I tried the same, but when I try to re-load the program says that it cannot write in the file ...\inkscape.exe and stops re-loading. What should I do?

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

Would you please tell us your operating system and which version of Inkscape? Also, it might be helpful to know the exact text of the error message that you're getting.

And let me ask another question. After you installed Inkscape, did you perhaps move it to a different folder?

When you try to reload Inkscape, do you mean that you are just opening Inkscape (a new blank document) or are you trying to open a particular file? If you've moved that file, then it sounds like Inkscape can't find it. If that's the case, then find the file (using a file manager, such as Windows Explorer, if you're on Windows) then right-click > Open with > Inkscape.

Or when you say "reload" do you mean "reinstall"?

Thank you! But I managed to solve the problem yesterday evening after posting the question. In addition to uninstalling the earlier version of Inkspace (that did not work) I had to log out and restart my computer. After that Inkspace could be reloaded normally.

windows...if all else fails, reboot....and if that fails, reinstall...checking in the bowels of the registry meantime...and if that fails fail. failing to fail is an interesting possibility.
seriously, when installing programs (to this day) it's a good thing to do: reboot windows.
