Can't set Inkscape as default app to open SVG files in Windows 10

Postby elunicotomas » Tue Feb 28, 2017 10:43 pm

Hi there,

Yesterday everything was fine, Inkscape was my default app to open svg files in windows 10. Then I realized there was a newer version so I updated the software, strangely but versions were kept, so I uninstalled the older one and keep the newer version (Inkscape 0.92.1 r15371), BUT now I have no default app to open svg files, and can't fix this issue.

When I try to open a svg file I get this message:

I went to the registry and deleted the inskscape entry (I made this some time ago for another software but similar issue) but nothing change.

I know this IS NOT SUPPORT, but any ideas are welcome.

Thanks!!!

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Uninstalling from the .exe and reinstalling from the .msi fixed this for me (though admittedly in-between I installed Inkscape from the Windows 10 app store inadvertently, felt great dread, and then figured out how to uninstall that nonsense [three competing stupid installer systems and no real package manager! What a ridiculous OS. =P]).

Off topic

What a ridiculous OS.

I couldn't agree more. I was appalled at Windows 10! I just took my first steps yesterday to make the switch to Linux.
