I have drawn a diagram and I want to produce it as an svg and also as a wmf. In my drawing I have inserted a small png image and it displays just fine inside the overall svg. However, when I "save as" wmf format, the png portion turns into a black square. (emf does the same)

Are there any little tricks to make this display properly?

I'm not familiar with the wmf format but my first guess would be even if it supports raster images, it probably doesn't support alpha channel in the embedded png. Would try extracting the raster image first, and save a copy of it with gimp that has no alpha channel and use that instead of the original.
