Something I was wondering for future splash screens or contests in general, what about include animations or some interactivity (with javascript, or CSS, or SMIL)?... perhaps like "Eastern Eggs" !.

Great ideas, hulf! I've suggested more than once, a few different ideas for splash screen. Although now that I think of it, I thought 0.92 was going to have the splash. But I don't see it in pre2. (no mention in release notes - must not have made the cut - but I thought I saw some promising discussion about it somewhere, mailing list, I think)

I'm not sure technically if the splash screen could be animated. In most cases, it would only show for a few seconds, before the program loads. Hardly time for even 1 cycle. But I'm certainly no expert.

Anyway, besides having a contest for the splash screen, I've thought of using all the about screen contest entries in a randomly presented splash screen. So that every time you open, you'll get a random image. And I also mentioned somewhere about allowing the user to sort of program their own splash screen images (by either choosing from a set of stock image, about contest entries, or even create their own), or choose one, if they don't want multiple splash choices.

Probably would be good to put in an official request for all these ideas!

Had asked at the irc if it could be animated, but they told me it cannot be rendered yet.
